Bill and Eve hosted a once-in-a-lifetime event on August 20-21, with some great people, great food, and great wine. The 2017 Solar Eclipse Campout took place in their own backyard, or in this case their 100+ acre La Chenaie vineyard! (Special thanks to photographer Brett Eddy, who took all the photos and videos.)
On Sunday afternoon, everyone got a chance to relax, enjoy some wine, “casual gourmet” food, and take a vineyard tour with Bill and Vincente. The tour visited organically farmed blocks of Pinot noir, Tempranillo and Riesling vines. Then came dinner—an authentic Mexican meal with all the trimmings prepared by Mrs. Juana Cortes, a chef trained in Mexico City and Oaxaca. Besides being the evening’s chef, Juana is also the mother of Vicente Mora Cortes, our Vineyard Manager. The evening was topped off with a glorious sunset and star gazing, anticipating the next morning’s show.
Then came the spectacle Monday morning, and the eclipse did not disappoint. La Chenaie vineyard is in Oregon’s Eola Hills with beautiful vistas of the of the Willamette Valley, and because the vineyard was in the path of totality it provided one of the best vantage points to enjoy the show. The moon’s blocking of the sun provided a moment of awe and wonder in one of most beautiful venues in the country.
While there may be more eclipses in the United States, here in Oregon we won’t see another total eclipse until June 25, 2169. If it’s anything like this last one, you may want to make your plans to join Holloran Vineyard Wines now.
